MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

Our next meeting is November 20. The demo Artist for November will be Justin Burns, demonstrating Acrylic Transparent Layers..

Justin grew up in Farmers Branch, Texas and studied close to home at the University of North Texas. He earned his BFA focusing primarily on Studio Drawing and Painting in 2013. Before achieving a BFA, Justin and his twin brother were traveling playing music and signed a record contract to Island/Def-Jam Records in 2009.

During his travels playing music, Justin experimented in painting and photography and began to gather photographs of a small community were the Burns family has a one-hundred-year old farm in Kopperl, Texas. Justin took interested in stories of the farm, community and what is physically left behind.

After experiencing an apartment fire where he and his family lost everything in 2014, Justin’s work began to take a new role and meaning. His work focuses on spaces that are left as they are, weathered and abandoned fragments of a time once lived. His paintings have been exhibited in Dallas/Fort Worth and have been featured in publications such as Studio Visit Magazine and Friend of the Artist.

Juror for the 2018 RCAS Membership Show: Liz Bonham, NOAPS

Liz grew up surrounded by creativity especially that of her father, a Houston architect who studied with Frank Lloyd Wright. When Liz was twelve, her father arranged lessons for her with Lowell Collins. As a young girl she admired the work of John Singer Sargent and the Impressionists. When the Hermitage Exhibition  came to Houston, Liz was so inspired, she decided to be a professional artist and started her career as a portrait artist at Six Flags when she was only fifteen.
Liz graduated from Abilene Christian University with a BFA in painting and continued with graduate work in art education. Liz excelled as a commercial artist and illustrator for publishers including Harper Collins and Scholastic.  Her most notable publication achievement was “The Crippled Lamb” by Max Lucado which sold almost two million copies and received the Gold Medallion Book Award. Because of her exceptional illustrations in Christian books and volunteer work, ACU further awarded her with their centennial “Change the World Award”.
Currently, Liz celebrates life through realistic/impressionistic style oil paintings. She offers a breath of fresh air for the soul to experience the beauty, joy and peace that is present in nature.  Her plein air studies have taken her all over north America and Europe. It is not uncommon to find her and her husband trekking along the sides of cliffs and canyons looking for the next great painting location.
You can learn more about Liz on her website at https://lizbonham.com/.
Liz is a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS).
