MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

Our next meeting is January 16. The demo Artist for January is Soon Warren, working in watercolors.

Soon Y. Warren is a full time artist and teacher. She has an Associate degree in commercial art from Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia. Soon Y. had numerous exhibitions and earned numerous awards.

Her paintings were published in:
• Honorable Mention in the Artist's Magazine competition in 2005 (Peacock)
• Finalist in the Still Life category of the 22nd Annual Artist's Magazine's Art Competition (Baby Breath)
• Forth place in the Animal category in Watercolor Magic Magazine Competition in 2005 (Waiting)
• Jack Richeson Grand Prize Awards in Watermedia Showcase 2005 in Watercolor Magic magazine (Red Senses)

She also was awarded First Place in North Light Book Cover Competition in 2006 (Baby Breath) and
Second Place in Still Life category in Artist's Magazine Competition 2006 (Yellow Daisy)

RCAS 2018 SPRING SHOW

ELIGIBILITY

This exhibit is open to RCAS members and non-members, age 18 and over. The location of the exhibit will be on the 3rd floor of the Richardson Public Library at 900 Civic Center Drive, Rich-ardson, TX 75080. This exhibit is limited to three entries per artist. Artwork must be original, executed after March 2016, without instructor supervision, and must not be copies of art work or photographs by persons other than the artist. Multiple painting series must be in separate frames only and will be judged individually. Categories will be Oil/Acrylic on Canvas or Hard Surface; Water Media on Paper; Collage/Mixed Media; and Pastels/Graphics. No sculpture, computer art, photographs, shadow boxes or assemblage. Graphics are limited to charcoals, pen & ink, colored & graphite pencils, crayons, woodcuts, etchings, and hand pulled prints. Artwork which includes nudes, conspicuously religious or blatant political statements will not be accepted. RCAS reserves the right to refuse any entry. Entry into this exhibit implies acceptance of all requirements specified in this prospectus.

ENTRY PROCESS

Entries will be accepted only online - SEE ENTRY OPTIONS BELOW. Images do not need to be submitted. Artists may enter artwork of their choice as long as it meets the requirements specified in the Prospectus. Payment may be made by credit card online or by check via US Mail. If you wish to pay by check, select the correct option below, fill out the online form (PRINT BEFORE YOU HIT SUBMIT BUTTON) and mail check to the address listed on the bottom of the form.

ENTRY FEES

RCAS MEMBERS: $25 for one entry, $30 for two entries, or $35 for three entries.
NON-MEMBERS: $35 for one entry, $40 for two entries, or $45 for three entries. All fees are non-refundable.

Juror: Jane E. Jones

Jane Jones is a highly celebrated and published artist and a long-time friend to RCAS.  She is an invited lecturer and juror for more than 80 art organizations with top awards from art organizations across the country.  She has studied with professional artists from across the United States and Europe.  Some of her awards include SWS Best of Show 2012

and 2014, First Place 1990, plus awards with SWS in 2011, 2009, 2008, 2005, 2003, 1991 and 1990 receiving her signature with SWS in 1987. Awards from other organizations throughout the United States are listed in her credits as well as a “50 Years of Excellence” award from the Texas Watercolor Society. She’s listed in Who’s Who of American Women and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Jane has been published in several North Light publications over the years, plus Watercolor Artist Maga-zine, American Artist and Splash 5. She’s been one of the featured artists in several “Best of” publications from 1998 to the present.

REQUIREMENTS & RESTRICTIONS

SIZE LIMITATIONS:

Minimum image size is 100 square inches (Height X Width ≥ 100”) not in-cluding mat and frame. Maximum overall frame height or width is 42 inches and must be less than 2 inches deep. Only two-dimensional art will be accepted.

FRAMING:

Selected art MUST be dry, and framed in a professional manner using D-rings and wire (no saw-tooth hangers). Simple frames are encouraged. Watercolor and other fragile media must be under Plexiglas. Pastel and Charcoal artwork may be under glass. Gallery wrapped canvas is acceptable, edges must be painted. Collage buildups must not exceed 1/4”. Diptych and Triptych’s must be in a single frame and will be judged as one entry.

GENERAL:

This show is limited to three entries per artist. Items not for sale must be marked NFS. A 20% commission on all sales shall be submitted by the artist to RCAS. Artists are responsible for paying state sales taxes. Please price your work accordingly. Artwork which includes nudes, conspicuously religious or blatantly political statements will not be accepted. If selected, entrants are obligated to exhibit their work during the entire show. Accepted entries shall im-ply a release of winning images to be displayed on the RCAS website, RCAS Facebook page or other RCAS publications. Awards are given at the discretion of the juror. Artists may qualify for up to three awards (only one per category). The juror’s decision is final.

LIABILITY

Artists should carry their own insurance. Reasonable care will be taken with original art. The City of Richardson, RCAS, its officers or volunteers and/or the Richardson Public Library will not be responsible for the loss, theft, breakage or damage of any artworks submitted. Entry implies artist’s acceptance of this policy.

AGREEMENT

Entering this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to all rules and conditions as set forth in this prospectus.
