Our next meeting is September 18. The demo Artist for September will be E. Melinda Morrison, demonstrating oils.

As a young woman, her B.A. in fine arts from the University of Texas at Tyler took a backseat to the corporate world for many years: advertising exec; graphic designer and art director of her own company; and later corporate and executive recruiter.

Not surprisingly, she was recognized in national competitions for her print design and annual reports, but shortly after her move to Denver in 1994, the satisfied extrovert began to hear from the starving artist. She says she “felt like her soul was drying up”. An oil-painting class at the Art Students’ League of Denver rained water on that desert ground.

Over the next five years, Melinda studied painting at the League under the guidance of master painters like, Quang Ho, Kim English, Kevin Weckbach, and Ron Hicks. As her passion and skill grew, so did her dream to paint full-time. She made the leap in 2003 and brought years of corporate skills into the new and intricate dance of a full-time professional art career. She hasn’t looked back. As a native Texan I grew up in Odessa Texas and went to school in Denver Colorado, Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Denver and worked advertising for Regional Transportation District in Denver.  After moving back to Texas I worked for a local Magazine “The Meeting Manager” for Meeting Planners International as production manager and in production and design for all promotional materials. Then I worked a graphic artist and production communication for a local Printer.  I then took on my most important job of my life, staying home with my two boys for ten years

I was approached to do some school signs for my son’s school and was offered to teach.  So I went back to school and my certification in teaching art in all levels K-12 grade since 1999. I’ve taught at Canyon Creek Christian Academy, Plano Christian Academy and Wylie ISD and currently teach at Lucas Christian Academy.

I am the Vice President of Richardson Civic Art Society, where I have held many positions for the past several years. I am also member of Southwest Watercolor Society, Colored Pencil Society and Christians in the Visual Arts.

My work is in various mediums including watercolor, acrylic, collage and mixed medium.

I hope you enjoy my show.
