MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

MARCH & APRIL 2020 MEETINGS CANCELLED

Update: the Richardson Public Library has informed RCAS that our March and April Meetings must be cancelled. Because of COVID-19, all Library programs and events have been canceled through April 30. The library will be closed to the public until that date, after which the situation will be re-evaluated. Curbside Delivery is available to check out books & media. Call the Library at 972-744-4350 for further details.

Important Announcement – March 17th and April 21 Members’ Meetings are Cancelled

After much deliberation, and taking the World Health Organization and CDC guidance to avoid large gatherings into account, the RCAS Board of Directors has voted to cancel the March 17th Members’ Meeting (April 21 meeting also cancelled). We made this decision because many of our members are in the high-risk age category for the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Although only a few confirmed cases have been reported in Dallas County and Collin County, we felt it was best to err on the side of caution rather than risk the health of any of our members.

We will remain vigilant and let you know if it becomes advisable to cancel any future meetings.

Linda Clary
President, RCAS

IMPORTANT UPDATE

As you may know, we announced a few days ago that the RCAS Monthly Meeting on March 17th would not take place due to the cancellation by the Richardson Public Library of all meetings. At that time, they were still allowing events like our show take-ins, exhibits and pick-ups to take place. However, today they have announced that the library will be closed from now through March 27th (to be reassessed at that time) and that meetings will be cancelled through April 30th. So, our Spring Show, which was scheduled for take-in on March 21st, will be postponed and our April 21st Members Meeting will be cancelled.

Due to the fluid nature of the ongoing closures and cancellations, we are not sure when the Spring Show will take place. We have reserved the space at the library for our exhibits through August 22nd. So, we will wait until we have a better idea of how this is all going to work out before we set a firm date for the Spring Show to take place. Artists who have entered the Spring Show may withdraw their artwork if necessary, and a refund will be provided. However, we would prefer that you wait to request a refund until we have a better idea of when we can reschedule the show. We will be keeping you informed as new information is provided to us.

2019 Summer Show & Sale.

Congratulations to the winner of our 2019 RCAS Summer Show "People's Choice Award" ~ Claudia Caudill for her alcohol ink painting "Spring Iris's"! Claudia said "I was so happy to win the summer show votes, so encouraging when there are some times you wonder if anyone enjoys what we create. RCAS has been so kind to me and I am beyond joy to be the recipient of several awards this year."

The Summer Show was a resounding success. We had 100 gorgeous works of art in the show. The entry fee was $1 per piece to be awarded to the artist whose painting received the most votes. Thanks to a generous donation by Barbara McNutt, we had a People's Choice prize in the amount of $120.00.

We have several Art Shows each season.

It all starts with our Membership Show in the Fall. Those members wanting to display their 2D work and compete for prizes are eligible to enter. Paintings hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery of the Richardson Public Library. A judge will select winning entries and awards which are handed out at the monthly meeting. The prospectus explains rules and guidelines for hanging. Most work is for sale and is a great opportunity to purchase local art.

In the Winter, our Young People’s Scholarship Show hangs in the 3rd Floor Gallery with representation from our talented Richardson high school students competing for cash awards.

Following the Young People’s Show is the Rosemary Cheney Memorial Art Show. This showcases the RISD Elementary students. Forty-one schools send their best art to be displayed in the Library’s 3rd Floor Gallery, with the show traveling to the RISD Professional Building for more viewing by the public.

The Spring Show gives artists a chance to display and compete for prize money and awards. This show is open to any 2D artists in the surrounding communities who are over the age of 18. Sales of the artwork are encouraged. This is a great venue to purchase art pieces locally. The monthly meeting after the show hangs will present awards and prizes chosen by our judge. See the prospectus for rules and guidelines.

Our premier show is the Regional Juried Art Exhibition which is displayed at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. This juried show is open to qualified amateur and professional Texas artists. Prize awards totaling over $6900.00 in cash and merchandise are presented at a reception honoring entrants and their families and friends. Refreshments and music are part of the festivities. Sales of the artwork are encouraged by patrons.

Our final show is a casual display of any artwork that members wish to hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery during the summer months. We call this our Simply Summer Show and Sale.

See below for details about any of our shows. To see photos from previous shows, go to the Archives page.

A new solo exhibit, featuring Cecy Turner's artwork, has been installed at the Heights Recreation Center in Richardson, TX. It will be on display from February 4 through April 7, 2020.
