MEETINGS & DEMONSTRATIONS

After the summer break, our next regular monthly meeting will be September 17, 2019 at the Richardson Public Library basement meeting room. The September Demo Artist will be Sheliah Lonian. Sheliah will demonstrate her technique in Colored Pencil. The Meetings begins at 6:30 p.m.

Sheliah says "I have drawn as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are drawing on a chalk board and nothing was better then getting a big new box of Crayola Crayons.

I have had a life-long passion of learning and have taken numerous classes in art in several mediums and styles while trying to create my own individual style.

After workin many years primarily in medical management, I was able to retire to begin the career my heart longed for.

I work in colored pencil, acrylic, graphite and watercolor. I focus primarily on animals while sometimes working with flowers and still life.

I have been blessed and very honored to have won numerous awards in my career as an artist.

I currently have artwork displayed at the Wylie Fine Art Gallery in Wylie, Texas."

Congratulations to the winner of our 2019 RCAS Summer Show "People's Choice Award" ~ Claudia Caudill for her alcohol ink painting "Spring Iris's"! Claudia said "I was so happy to win the summer show votes, so encouraging when there are some times you wonder if anyone enjoys what we create. RCAS has been so kind to me and I am beyond joy to be the recipient of several awards this year."

The Summer Show was a resounding success. We had 100 gorgeous works of art in the show. The entry fee was $1 per piece to be awarded to the artist whose painting received the most votes. Thanks to a generous donation by Barbara McNutt, we had a People's Choice prize in the amount of $120.00.

We have several Art Shows each season.

It all starts with our Membership Show in the Fall. Those members wanting to display their 2D work and compete for prizes are eligible to enter. Paintings hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery of the Richardson Public Library. A judge will select winning entries and awards which are handed out at the monthly meeting. The prospectus explains rules and guidelines for hanging. Most work is for sale and is a great opportunity to purchase local art.

In the Winter, our Young People’s Scholarship Show hangs in the 3rd Floor Gallery with representation from our talented Richardson high school students competing for cash awards.

Following the Young People’s Show is the Rosemary Cheney Memorial Art Show. This showcases the RISD Elementary students. Forty-one schools send their best art to be displayed in the Library’s 3rd Floor Gallery, with the show traveling to the RISD Professional Building for more viewing by the public.

The Spring Show gives artists a chance to display and compete for prize money and awards. This show is open to any 2D artists in the surrounding communities who are over the age of 18. Sales of the artwork are encouraged. This is a great venue to purchase art pieces locally. The monthly meeting after the show hangs will present awards and prizes chosen by our judge. See the prospectus for rules and guidelines.

Our premier show is the Regional Juried Art Exhibition which is displayed at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. This juried show is open to qualified amateur and professional Texas artists. Prize awards totaling over $6900.00 in cash and merchandise are presented at a reception honoring entrants and their families and friends. Refreshments and music are part of the festivities. Sales of the artwork are encouraged by patrons.

Our final show is a casual display of any artwork that members wish to hang in the 3rd Floor Gallery during the summer months. We call this our Simply Summer Show and Sale.

See below for details about any of our shows. To see photos from previous shows, go to the Archives page.

His work has been shown in many galleries in the US and in Belize. His paintings have been inspired by his many travels and the encouragement of his wife and family to continue this path.
