Walt Davis and his work.
Walt Davis has taught drawing and watercolor painting for over thirty years. He is a past president and signature member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society and has won numerous awards in regional art competitions. In 2012, his painting, Insectarium, was selected for the American Watercolor Society Annual Show in New York. His 2013 painting, Katy-did, Katy-didn't, won the AWS Margery Soroka award and was selected for the AWS traveling show that year, and with a third acceptance this year he became a signature member of the organization. Davis especially enjoys introducing beginning students to the wonders of watercolor through a combination of instruction, demonstration, practice, and constructive feedback in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Walt Davis worked at the Dallas Museum of Natural History Museum for 25 years and was director of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for 12 years. His experience building wildlife dioramas and leading field trips to various parts of the state provide him with a wealth of material for paintings. According to Davis, "Nature is the ultimate designer, using soil and rock, water and plants to create beautiful places following the laws of nature. Watercolor, applied according to the elements and principles of design, is a beautiful medium for artistic expression. My challenge as an artist is to coax the potential of the medium into revealing the beauty and complexity of the subject."
